Milling Flax Seeds

Making Flaxseed Meal at Bob's Red Mill

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with my friend Cassidy at Bob’s Red Mill, and she kindly offered to sponsor another great giveaway. Longtime readers will already know that I’m a fan (and Bob’s is an Eating Rules sponsor), and if you missed my behind-the-scenes tour of their facility last year, you should definitely click over and check it out.

As I mentioned last week when I asked you what favorite foods you discovered in 2011, my “new-to-me” food last year was Hulled Hemp Seeds. So when we started brainstorming which products to offer up in the giveaway, and I mentioned my newfound love of hemp seeds, we came upon the idea of doing an “Omega-3 Three-Pack.”  And for good measure, we’re going to give away three of ‘em!

So to start your new year off right, three lucky winners will receive one bag each of Bob’s Red Mill Hulled Hemp Seeds, Chia Seeds, and Ground Flax Seeds.  It’s the Omega-3 Trifecta! (With lots of fiber, too!)

Hemp, Chia, Flax Trifecta!

The Hemp, Chia, and Flax Trifecta!

I use chia and flax every morning in my oatmeal! Would love to try hemp the same way, or in some oatmeal cookies.

I have only tried the flax seeds, but I’m sure they would all go great with oatmeal, whole grain breads, muffins, and cookies. I also like them slightly toasted and served over steamed or roasted green beans.

I have read some good recipes that require chia seeds or a chia egg and I have been wanting to try it.

I LOVE oatmeal and have been curious about incorporating chia seeds into my weekly oatmeal experiments! I see recipes for it all the time but have never gotten the chance to try it on my own~ I have also been experimenting with different smoothies and would incorporate both the chia seeds and hulled hemp seed for a super nutritional boost (much needed after a strenuous workout). To be honest, I’ve never worked any of these items, but I would love to try baking with the flaxseed meal (would probably work well with breads, muffins, etc. yes?).

I also wonder how any of these items could be integrated with my family’s Traditional Chinese palate… I definitely see hemp and/or flaxseed working well with something like Sichuan Eggplant…

Believe it or not, I haven’t tried chia or hemp (but don’t tell Woody Harrelson I’m a hemp virgin). I’d put them in my Arrowhead Mills Rice and Shine (organic brown rice hot cereal).

Just watched Forks over Knives, it really got me thinking about eating better. Just not entirely sure how to? Your site is a great resource for somebody like me. Thanks. Regarding how I would add this to my diet, to be honest I don’t really know yet. So used to prepackaged junk, some recipes would be great.
