Making Flaxseed Meal at Bob's Red Mill
A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with my friend Cassidy at Bob’s Red Mill, and she kindly offered to sponsor another great giveaway. Longtime readers will already know that I’m a fan (and Bob’s is an Eating Rules sponsor), and if you missed my behind-the-scenes tour of their facility last year, you should definitely click over and check it out.
As I mentioned last week when I asked you what favorite foods you discovered in 2011, my “new-to-me” food last year was Hulled Hemp Seeds. So when we started brainstorming which products to offer up in the giveaway, and I mentioned my newfound love of hemp seeds, we came upon the idea of doing an “Omega-3 Three-Pack.” And for good measure, we’re going to give away three of ‘em!
So to start your new year off right, three lucky winners will receive one bag each of Bob’s Red Mill Hulled Hemp Seeds, Chia Seeds, and Ground Flax Seeds. It’s the Omega-3 Trifecta! (With lots of fiber, too!)

The Hemp, Chia, and Flax Trifecta!

Chia seed “pudding” — chia seeds with coconut milk, a little cardamom, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and maple agave syrup. The chia seeds soak up tons of moisture, thickening the coconut milk so this ends up tasting totally comfort food-y when it’s secretly so, so good for you!

Oh Clare, that sounds heavenly!

Six months in to eating healthier and losing weight. I add the above products to kefir smoothies, salads, oatmeal, soups! I like Bob’s Red Mill products!
January 6, 2012 at 6:48 am
i love using ground flax seed or chia seeds in my smoothies for a nice, thick texture!
January 6, 2012 at 6:57 am
I add flax meal to smoothies, on top of yogurt, and in oatmeal. Or I’ll mix it into peanut butter and put that in a pb&j.

Kimchi is hardly a new taste for me, but after reading Wild Fermentation by Sandor Katz, I made a batch of Kimchi, and now I constantly have a batch going to keep me supplied. I love the crunchiness and spiciness of this “pickle” and add it to sandwiches or just have it on the side. The boost to your immune system is an added plus, and I stayed healthy all year.

In smoothies is the best!

I love making crackers and flatbreads with my favorite ingredients, such as whole grain flours, chia, flax and hemp seeds. I also use flaxseed meal and many other seeds. I like to brush the top and add more seeds. Yum. Nothing is so satifying to have with soup, salad, or just by itself.

These are wonderful products I have seen for many years, finally I am using Bob’s Red Mill products everyday, breakfast, lunch & dinner. We don’t end up throwing food away because it is good and we can always freeze extras when I make breads, muffins, cookies, etc. There is no waste and we like the health benefits as we are starting to notice we have more vitality and energy than our kids. We are trying to get them going the same positive direction to chose better for their health!!!

Ive recently gotten into baking – I would like to be able to experiment with some of these ingredients in that way. I already buy the flax seeds for smoothies – they are really tasty though so sometimes I just throw them on a salad or even on a slice of herbed bread with some olive oil. Im sort of addicted to them. Id like to try out the hemp seeds though – havent seen them in my local markets.

I would add these to my Dad’s oatmeal-it adds texture and flavor!
January 6, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Love hemp seed – found some recipes in “Thrive Diet” that have hemp seed in them and have been making those and using hemp seed on salads, etc. ever since!

I love BRMill. I stumbled upon his site as I was trying new healthier recipes last year.
I’m not exactly sure what I’d use these for, but I am off to research incorporating them.
I use milled flax seeds in all my breads (just add about 1/4 cup or so to any recipe and it healths it up.
ANyway – thanks for the chance to win! You’re a dear. I’m off to read your blog now.
Tell BRM thanks. Their FB page is telling us all to come here..

I would love to say I will do all sorts of fancy things but I really really love them in my hot cereal.. and flax is usually my go to egg substitute
January 6, 2012 at 1:50 pm
Can’t wait to get started on my new Omega-3 journey. I have been reading some mighty tasty-sounding recipes and will put my new products to work on them immediately.

Love flax seeds in baked goods and oatmeal
January 6, 2012 at 2:06 pm
Almost all my baked goods get flax meal added to them. Chia seeds, so far are something we’re experimenting with in oatmeal. Being a vegetarian household, we love all Bob’s Red Mill products for the fiber, even protein, lignans and consistent quality. Keep the good info coming, Andrew! Rafflecopter? I love it!
January 6, 2012 at 2:10 pm
I really only include flax seeds in my diet through my baked goods, and I also LOVE black raspberries that are also supposed to be pretty full of the omega-3s. I would love to give these BRM Products a shot, since I use quite a few of their products for my healthy granola recipes.

Love it on my yoghurt
January 6, 2012 at 3:01 pm
I just used Bob’s flax seed meal in my green smoothie this morning.
January 6, 2012 at 3:11 pm
I will be putting it in my whole wheat bread that I make from scratch. I will also be adding it in my smoothies. Yummy!
January 6, 2012 at 3:47 pm
I would start by mailing 1/2 of each bag to my mom–this isn’t something she can get in her neck of the woods. I’d poke around on some of my favorite sites and get a few recipes to send along with it. The chia seed pudding listed at the top of the comments sounds amazing!

I like to add hemp seeds to my smoothies, and lots of other stuff too. Flax I often bake with as an egg replacer, or just to add fiber. I haven’t used chia seeds yet, but would love to try making a chia seed pudding.
January 6, 2012 at 5:07 pm
Never tried chia seeds or hemp seeds. Would like to add them to smoothies, salads, etc. Am interested in getting recipes for using them!
January 6, 2012 at 5:21 pm
I tried hemp and chia seeds for the first time when I made your granola. Loved them both.

I sneak chia and flax seeds into whatever I can…granola, smoothies, my peanut butter and sauces. Looking forward to trying the chia seed pudding posted at the top – yum!
January 7, 2012 at 4:26 am
I didn’t like it in a smoothie because of the texture, so I am looking for new ways to add it into my meals.
January 7, 2012 at 10:55 am
So far, I only take omega-3s in pill form, but I’d love to try them in real food!
January 7, 2012 at 11:06 am
We love chia! I sprinkle it on our bean burritos, salads and my husband likes iskate after a run (tablespoon of chia, 16 oz water, a bit of agave and lime juice).
January 7, 2012 at 1:28 pm
I’ve been thinking about picking up some flax seeds for awhile, to mix into my breakfast in the morning and sprinkle on salads and over pasta. I’d love to try these!
January 7, 2012 at 4:46 pm
I LOVE FLAX! I use flax in smoothies, baked items, oatmeal, etc. This powerhouse opportunity is amazing! Thank you!
January 7, 2012 at 7:52 pm
My favorite latest discovery is flax muffins: you can make one in a coffee mug in the microwave in 1-2 minutes, by combining 1/4 cup ground flax seeds, 1/2 t. baking powder, 1 t. cinnamon, 1 egg and 1 tsp. butter or coconut oil. Microwave on high. Or, of course, you can make a bigger batch in ordinary muffin pans in the oven. Low carb, gluten free, delicious….
January 7, 2012 at 10:41 pm
I like to use flax meal in yogurt or any other breakfasty thing. I don’t have the foggiest idea about hemp seeds, but I’d love to try them!
January 8, 2012 at 6:12 am
Looking forward to trying these in several favorite recipes. I would love to nave a more healthy pizza and that might be my first experiment.
January 8, 2012 at 9:40 am
I’ve been using ground flaxseed in my daily morning oatmeal forever… But for 2012, I have vowed to branch out into hemp and chia. I love the nutty earthy taste of the hemp seeds!
January 8, 2012 at 10:20 am
Flax as egg replacer in baking, all three in raw granola and snack bars!

Use flax seed in my gluten free high protein pancakes (special treat for breakfast!)
January 8, 2012 at 12:24 pm
I add flax and hemp to my hot cereal in the morning along with walnuts/almonds and flaked coconut. I’ve had chia seeds in a prebought drink but haven’t used it otherwise. I’ll have to check that out.
January 8, 2012 at 10:40 pm
Let’s start the new year right!
I love Bob’s other healthy products, but have never tried these. I’d like to!
January 9, 2012 at 8:17 am
I add flaxseed to my smoothies – gives it a great texture and make you feeling more full after the smoothies. I recently started adding flaxseed in my baking recipes and find flaxseed adding the same qualities to baked goods as smoothies.
January 9, 2012 at 10:52 am
I love chia in raw puddings and in breakfast cereal and sometimes use it as an egg replacement. I use hemp seeds to boost protein and EFA by sprinkling them on my salads and eating them as a snack.
I use ground flax seeds in my raw breads, nut loafs, and neat balls, and also use them to replace eggs in baked goods.
January 9, 2012 at 11:41 am
I put flax on my oatmeal in the morning, but I’ve never tried chia or hemp. I would love to diversify my oatmeal and yogurt toppings though!
January 9, 2012 at 12:32 pm
I like mine sprinkled on yogurt
January 9, 2012 at 12:41 pm
I’d put it in my husband’s homemade granola!
January 9, 2012 at 12:51 pm
I I love every Bob’s Red Mill product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
